The fourth session of the "Independent Living" program for persons with disabilities began today in Salalah, Oman. The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Social Development, is hosting this event, which is organized under the supervision of the Arab League and the Arab Chambers Union, in collaboration with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).
Objectives of the "Independent Living" Program
This two-day session aims to strengthen the right of persons with disabilities to live independently. The goal of this program is to create the possibility for these individuals to choose their lifestyle and residence, as well as to ensure fair access to social services and facilities. These measures are designed to enhance the active participation and integration of these individuals into society.
The program also seeks to create a supportive environment that helps eliminate barriers and improve access to facilities and services. Another goal is to develop national policies and programs in collaboration with governmental, civil, and private entities to support the inclusion and empowerment of persons with disabilities. Other objectives of this program include raising community awareness about the independence rights of persons with disabilities and utilizing Gulf and Arab experiences in the development of related services.
Conducting Sessions and Workshops
The opening of this event was held under the patronage of His Excellency Sayyid Marwan bin Turki Al Said, Governor of Dhofar, and attended by Dr. Leila Ahmed Al-Najjar, Minister of Social Development, along with officials, experts, and specialists from the Sultanate of Oman and Arab countries.
The first day included two main panels. The first panel, titled "Policies, Technological Innovations, and Artificial Intelligence for Empowering Independence," featured four working papers. The second panel, titled "Social Responsibility and Economic Empowerment: Employment Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities," examined four additional papers.
This session also included an exhibition showcasing several initiatives, projects, and leading experiences in supporting the empowerment of persons with disabilities. This exhibition is designed to present successful practical models and exchange experiences.
The continuation of the sessions on the second day will feature two workshops. The first workshop will focus on integrated entrepreneurial skills in digital marketing and creating investment partnerships with the business community.
