The Sultanate of Oman has declared its firm support for the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state with borders from 1967 and a capital in East Jerusalem. This position was expressed in a statement presented during the third session of the seventy-third United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).
Support for the Palestinian Economy
In this statement, Oman emphasized that support for the Palestinian economy is not just a reaction to current crises, but an investment in peace, stability, and a sustainable future for the entire region. His Excellency Ambassador Idris bin Abdulrahman Al-Khunjari, Oman’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, referred to the economic and humanitarian dimensions of the Palestinian crisis during this meeting, stating that nearly 92 percent of the economic infrastructure in the Gaza Strip has been severely damaged.

Challenges Facing Palestine
He also pointed to the financial needs for reconstruction and improving the economic situation, stating that the estimated reconstruction and repair needs could reach about 16.2 billion dollars. These figures are not just statistics but represent lost job opportunities and income sources that form the basis of a dignified life.
The Omani ambassador continued that the economic crisis facing the Palestinians is deeper and more unprecedented than ever, having worsened significantly since October 2023. In particular, the existing restrictions on the Palestinian economy have weakened production and trade capabilities, harming its growth and sustainability.
He added that reconstruction should be viewed as a comprehensive developmental and humanitarian project related to the protection of Palestinian human rights and the provision of a dignified life, especially in conditions where food security and livelihoods have severely declined.
The Sultanate of Oman emphasized that to resolve the Palestinian economic crisis, the root causes and structural factors must be addressed, including the ongoing occupation and restrictions imposed on resources and economic activities.
In conclusion, the Omani ambassador called for a comprehensive and sustainable global response for the reconstruction and improvement of the economic conditions of the Palestinians, highlighting the importance of continued UNCTAD cooperation in economic analysis and strengthening the national capacities of Palestine.
