Washington D.C.: After a difficult midterm election period that resulted in major defeats for the ruling party in the United States, Donald Trump, the President of the United States, is assessing the continued presence of Pete Hegseth as Secretary of War. The war in Iran has become a central topic of domestic discussions, and this evaluation comes as concerns about the political impact of the war in Iran are rising in Washington.
Internal Cabinet Reviews
According to informed sources, Trump has raised this issue in phone conversations and consultations with his close advisors, although no final decision regarding potential changes in the government staff has been made yet. These discussions coincide with increasing criticisms in Washington regarding the impacts of the war in Iran on the country's political situation.

J.D. Vance, the Vice President, has explicitly linked this conflict to the recent electoral defeat. Vance wrote in a public statement on social media platform X: "The reason for our loss is the war." This claim indicates that the war in Iran is considered a key factor in analyzing the results of the recent elections.
Speculations About Cabinet Changes
Rumors regarding the potential departure of Hegseth from the Department of Defense have sparked discussions about possible replacements. According to separate reports, Ron DeSantis, the Governor of Florida, has been mentioned as a possible candidate for this position. Observers believe that DeSantis may be able to secure the necessary confirmation during the lame-duck session, in which the Senate is controlled by the opposing party, and take on the role of Secretary of Defense after his governorship ends on January 5.
Despite the rumors regarding changes in the cabinet, Trump has publicly dismissed this claim and, in response to reporters' questions, stated: "No, I think he is doing a great job." Additionally, when asked about the possibility of Hegseth moving to the Senate to fill the vacant seat in Tennessee, Trump noted, "I really think if he does that, he will be very popular," while emphasizing that "I have not heard this at all."
The government has also rejected any suggestions that the cabinet position is in jeopardy. Anna Kelly, the White House spokesperson, stated in an official announcement that the President "has complete confidence in Secretary Hegseth." Kelly also defended the government's military operations in Iran and Venezuela and praised Hegseth's efforts to eliminate diversity and equality initiatives introduced by the previous administration.
Hegseth has previously faced calls for impeachment from opposing lawmakers. Given that Democrats are likely to gain a strong majority in both houses of Congress, legal pressures and the possibility of impeachment may increase.
