The United States government, led by President Donald Trump, has strongly urged the Senate to pass the Sunshine Protection Act. Trump expressed strong dissatisfaction with early nightfall in a social statement, referring to sunset occurring at 5:06 PM and complete darkness arriving at 5:31 PM.
Call for Stability in Time
The President noted the seasonal changes and their effects on people's daily lives, saying: "It gets very dark, and this darkness happens very early." He also mentioned public concern regarding the time change, adding: "Just a few days ago, at this time, we had sunny and pleasant weather. People were adjusting their clocks, and this is bothersome for them."
The proposed law seeks to establish daylight saving time permanently across the country, thereby stopping the biennial clock change. Trump emphasized that the House of Representatives has repeatedly supported this bill with strong bipartisan backing, recording a decisive vote of 308-117, while the United States Senate has consistently delayed consideration of the bill.
Legal Background and Implications
Trump further noted that the House of Representatives advanced this bill in July and sent the text to the Senate, where it faced resistance from lawmakers. He stated: "The House sent it to the Senate with strong bipartisan support, but the Senate has not addressed it."
The President also pointed out that he deliberately did not make this issue a central topic during the recent election cycle to avoid a strong electoral backlash from vulnerable representatives. He said: "We have bigger priorities, but I will continue to push for this issue!"
Currently, given the public dissatisfaction with time changes and their impact on daily life, it seems that this bill could become an important item on the agenda of the United States Senate. The passage of this law could lead to positive changes in people's lives and reduce the confusion caused by adjusting clocks.
