Volodymyr Zelensky, the President of Ukraine, issued a warning regarding the planned meeting between Russia, China, and the United States next month. He described this meeting as an opportunity to redefine global spheres of influence and stated: "We really do not want this meeting to become 'Yalta 2, 3, 4' and affect the distribution of influence." Zelensky referred to the Yalta Conference in 1945, where the Allied powers redrew the map of the world after World War II.

Risks of the Triangular Meeting

The Kremlin had previously announced that it is planning a meeting between Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia, and his American and Chinese counterparts, Donald Trump and Xi Jinping, on the sidelines of an Asia-Pacific summit next month. This news has been reported by various sources, and it seems that Trump has not yet agreed to participate in this summit. However, reports indicate that Trump has expressed interest in this proposal put forward by Putin, as he seeks to end the war in Ukraine.

Putin's Claims and Their Consequences

Zelensky further emphasized: "What China, Russia, and the United States may discuss is not yet clearly defined" and warned that "Russia needs this meeting more than anyone else" and highlighted the danger of granting "another diplomatic advantage to Moscow." In recent years, Russia has sought a new agreement with Washington regarding the security architecture of Europe and has particularly called for an end to what Putin sees as NATO's aggressive expansion towards Russia.

Vladimir Putin has repeatedly described the war in Ukraine as an act of self-defense, a view that has been widely rejected in Kyiv and other parts of Europe. Zelensky raised this warning ahead of the planned negotiations between representatives of Ukraine, Russia, and the United States in the United Arab Emirates. A specific date for this meeting in Abu Dhabi has not been set, but Kyiv hopes that this meeting will take place before the potential Russia-China-US summit.

Additionally, it was confirmed on Wednesday that Sergey Lavrov, the Russian Foreign Minister, will travel to the United States to participate in the G20 Foreign Ministers' Meeting. This meeting will be held in Atlanta on October 30-31.
