The government of Donald Trump is facing significant changes in the attitudes of Latin voters in the state of Arizona. Ferdinando Nunez, a 22-year-old from Yuma, Arizona, who two years ago went door-to-door in the intense heat to vote for Trump, has now announced that he will not vote for any of his endorsed candidates.

Dissatisfaction with Trump's Performance

Nunez says, “Trump betrayed us. He completely changed.” He refers to Trump's promises to lower prices, end foreign wars, and release all documents related to the Jeffrey Epstein investigations. However, he is now dissatisfied with the government's lack of transparency regarding Epstein and the war against Iran, which has led to rising fuel prices and inflation.

Economic Impacts on Voters

Nunez points out the rising prices in various areas, saying, “Gas, insurance, food: everything has become more expensive and is more than ever.” He also mentions that he will likely vote for independent candidates in the November 3 election.

The city of Yuma, Arizona, is a prime example of the changing attitudes of Latin voters towards the right, which helped Trump’s election in 2024. In this area, Trump won by 20 points. In the city of San Luis, which has an almost entirely Latin population and typically votes for Democrats, about 40% of residents voted for Trump in 2024.

Gerardo Anaya, the mayor of San Luis, believes that dissatisfaction with the high inflation rate during Joe Biden's presidency and the daily influx of thousands of migrants into the city has caused these changes. He says, “This was just a vote against the Biden administration.”

While some voters may lean towards supporting his rivals due to dissatisfaction with Trump, in San Luis, some, like a gardener who wishes to remain unnamed, have stated that they will not participate in the voting at all.

Meanwhile, hashtags and polls indicate that this discontent has spread significantly among Latin voters, giving Democrats hope of gaining control of at least one of the two chambers of Congress.
