Ed Sheeran, after a hiatus caused by recent controversies related to statements made by one of his Palestinian-supporting fellow artists, is soon returning to the stage. The 35-year-old artist is set to perform in Philadelphia, which will be recognized as his first show following this crisis. On Saturday, Palestinian-supporting protesters greeted Sheeran's concertgoers with the chant 'Free, Free Palestine.'

Recent Controversies and Their Consequences

This controversy began when Macklemore, one of Sheeran's fellow artists, was removed from his U.S. tour due to his statements about Palestine. Macklemore publicly shouted 'Free Palestine' at a concert in New Jersey, which led to protests from stadium owners and ultimately his removal from the tour. In response to this issue, Ed Sheeran distanced himself from the decision to remove Macklemore and pointed to the tour organizers.

Ed Sheeran's Position and Palestinian Supporter Protests

During this time, Sheeran has responded to criticisms of himself, stating that he does not expect a political assembly at his concerts. He said: 'I have my personal opinions on this devastating conflict, but I did not choose to speak publicly about it.' His stance has faced protests from Palestinian-supporting groups, which have urged artists and fans to distance themselves from Sheeran's concerts.

The Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel (PACBI) stated: 'We are now expanding our call for a boycott of Ed Sheeran's world tour and urge all artists and audiences to refrain from attending his concerts.'

On the other hand, four artists who support Sheeran have also withdrawn from his tour due to their support for Palestine. These artists include Sheeran's supporting group and Finneas, known for collaborating with Billie Eilish.

As the conflicts in Gaza continue and the humanitarian consequences have intensified, criticisms of Sheeran for not taking a firm and clear stance have also increased. Since the onset of Israel's military attacks on Gaza in October 2023, the number of Palestinian casualties has exceeded 73,800.

The Philadelphia concert is taking place amid fluctuations in ticket resale markets. According to ticket tracking sites, ticket prices have dropped from $123 to $48. Meanwhile, police are present at the concert venue and the Palestinian supporter protests, monitoring the peace of the gathering.
