Sameh Shoukry, Egypt's Foreign Minister, expressed his deep concern about the potential escalation of war between the United States and Iran during the Manama security dialogue meeting in Bahrain on Saturday. He stated that a new phase of this war could be more destructive and dangerous than before, and its consequences would lead nowhere.
Consequences of War and the Necessity of Learning Lessons
The Egyptian Foreign Minister further added: "The second round of this war could be significantly more dangerous and destructive, and we must learn from past experiences." These remarks were made in light of the temporary agreement signed in June, which failed to secure a permanent ceasefire in the Iran war or restore normal shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
Mediation Efforts and Existing Disagreements
Iran recently proposed that the United States lift its sanctions and blockades on Iranian ports, provided that Tehran also reopens the disrupted waterway within seven days. On Friday, Qatari mediators traveled to Tehran again to resume their efforts to bring the parties to an agreement, but there is still disagreement over whether nuclear negotiations or the easing of sanctions and oil embargoes should take priority.
Sameh Shoukry's concerns refer not only to the current state of the war but also to its potential implications for the region and global security. He emphasized that the escalation of these tensions could lead to new crises that threaten regional stability.
