India's Information Technology (IT) sector is expected to witness gentle growth in the second half of the fiscal year 2026-27. Price pressures, increasing competition, and geopolitical challenges are factors affecting the performance of this sector, and profit margins are expected to remain stable during this period.
Limited Revenue Growth for Major IT Companies
According to a recent report, major IT companies in India are expected to experience limited organic revenue growth in Q2FY27. This growth may increase by only up to 2 percent. Tier-I IT companies are specifically forecasted to have organic revenue growth between -1.5 percent and 2.0 percent compared to the previous quarter (QoQ) during this period.

While growth continues in the banking, financial services, and insurance (BFSI), manufacturing, and healthcare sectors, these positive factors are impacted by weaknesses in other sectors, price pressures from artificial intelligence, and geopolitical risks. However, mid-sized IT companies continue to show more progress compared to their larger competitors.
Profit Margins and Existing Challenges
Profit margins in major IT service companies are expected to improve modestly compared to the previous quarter. Margin improvements are achieved due to cost efficiencies and positive currency effects, which offset some of the price pressures and wage increases. However, given the increasing investment needs and existing constraints, profitability is likely to be under pressure.
Additionally, some major IT companies are expected to report currency losses due to cash flow hedging. In terms of valuations, it has been noted that the Nifty IT index has decreased by about 30 percent over the past year, causing the valuations of most IT service stocks to reach multi-year lows.
This decline reflects weak demand, reductions due to artificial intelligence, and macroeconomic challenges. However, resilient margins, healthy cash flow generation, and contract wins are supportive factors for this sector. Moreover, attractive paybacks and free cash flow yields, along with reduced token AI costs, could provide opportunities for leading IT service companies.
The report adds: "Current multiples indicate expectations of modest growth while paybacks and free cash flow yields remain attractive. Reduced token costs could create significant opportunities for leading IT service companies. We believe there is no significant reduction in valuations from current levels."
