The International Energy Agency (IEA) and the European Union have examined the release of oil and diesel reserves on October 7, 2023. Diplomats and analysts predict that this action will include volumes promised in March.
Impact of Wars on Energy Prices
Wars in Iran and Ukraine have had negative effects on refineries and tanker traffic, leading to unprecedented high diesel prices. This price increase has also impacted various sectors, including transportation and agriculture.

The Group of Seven countries agreed on October 6, 2023, to release 100 million barrels of oil. This decision came after a warning from former U.S. President Donald Trump about the potential ban on American diesel exports if more of this fuel was not supplied to the market.
Future Plans and Officials' Statements
It is currently unclear how much diesel and crude oil will be released. IEA member countries will review this plan on Wednesday, and the EU oil coordination group has also held a meeting on this matter.
Polish Energy Minister, Piotr Naimski, has stated that Poland is ready to release oil and diesel reserves if an agreement is reached, but does not expect the IEA to make a decision on this matter on Wednesday.
In March, the IEA announced that it would release 400 million barrels of oil from strategic reserves to counter rising oil prices and declining supply. Of this amount, approximately 325 million barrels have been released so far. EU countries expect the remaining 75 million barrels to be related to the new 100 million barrel plan.
JP Morgan analysts also emphasized that a significant portion of the announced release on Friday represents the completion of the March release. The German Ministry of Economy has stated that it is working on confirming the release of energy reserves, without mentioning any new amounts.
The ministry stated: "Germany will participate in the volume set by the IEA in March." These developments occur as energy prices continue to impact daily life and the economies of various countries.
