The conference "Environmental Legislation: Together for the Protection of Turtles" was organized by the Environment Organization on Sunday in Southeast Oman. This event was part of efforts to strengthen the protection of sea turtles, preserve biodiversity, and raise public awareness about laws related to environmental ecosystems.
The Necessity of Environmental Legislation
This conference, supported by Sheikh Dr. Saif bin Mohammed Al-Ghaithi, the governor of Sur, emphasized the importance of environmental legislation as a fundamental pillar in the protection of wildlife and natural resources. The goal of holding it was also to promote a culture of compliance with regulations related to environmental protection, especially regulations concerning turtles, which are a key component of biodiversity in Southeast Oman.
Legal and Executive Roles in Turtle Protection
The conference addressed the legal and supervisory roles in the protection of turtles and the marine environment based on the "Law of Living Aquatic Resources" and also examined legal measures to deal with violations against wildlife. The presence of specialists from the Environment Organization, the Public Prosecution, the General Directorate of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources in Southeast Oman, and Sultan Qaboos University reflects the interaction and cooperation among various institutions in the pursuit of environmental protection and biodiversity.
The conference program included a visual presentation on the wildlife activities of turtles in the Ras Al-Hadd turtle reserve. This presentation focused on the ecological value of these creatures and the importance of preserving their natural habitats. The conference served as a platform for exchanging views and creating synergy among various institutions in the pursuit of environmental protection and biodiversity.
