Al-Omriya Greenhouse in Kuwait has attracted residents' attention by offering over 500,000 local plants at affordable prices. These plants start at prices as low as 50 fils, aiming to encourage residents to expand green spaces around their homes and farms.
Greenhouse Open to the Public
The Public Authority for Agricultural Affairs and Fish Resources opens this greenhouse to the public every year at this time. This season runs from October 18 to December 31, and the greenhouse operates daily from 8 AM to 12 PM in the Al-Rabiah area. The head of the greenhouse section stated: "The special feature of this season is that all seedlings are locally produced, and regional conditions have made imports difficult."

Diversity of Plants and Affordable Prices
During this season, the greenhouse offers about 80 different types of plants, which is expected to increase to around 90 types. According to pricing regulations, citizens can purchase up to 100 seedlings per week. This selection includes indoor and outdoor plants, shrubs, ornamental and fruit trees, ground covers, vegetables, and flowers.
A Kuwaiti visitor named Abdul Latif mentioned that the affordable prices are one of the main reasons for the high turnout at the greenhouse. He noted that he is buying plants for his farm, and the "Baladi Sidr" plant is one of his favorites because it "produces fruit and can withstand the heat of Kuwait."
Salwa Ali and Hisham Hussein also visited this place for the first time after learning about the greenhouse through social media. The couple was looking for plants with practical benefits, especially vegetables like mint and basil that they could use in cooking. Ali also pointed out that gardening is a way to maintain a connection with nature amid the busyness of modern life.
Among the plants this season, there are alternatives to artificial firewood that have been removed by city officials. The greenhouse has replaced "Conocarpus" trees with "Vitex agnus-castus," which is suitable for use in residential fences due to its dense green leaves.
Other options include ornamental trees and fruit-bearing trees. The greenhouse also offers plants suitable for farms and stables, as well as residential gardens. This includes willow trees, local cedar, and henna plants, from which natural henna can be produced.
