The Indian stock market appears strong due to increased foreign investments, robust corporate earnings, and declining crude oil prices ahead of an important trading season. Sharikant Chauhan, head of equity research at Kotak Neo, has analyzed the positive trends in this market.

Strong Foundations for the Indian Stock Market

Sharikant Chauhan stated on Friday that the Indian stock market is built on very strong foundations, and corporate earnings are expected to improve, with profit growth continuing over the next two years. He pointed to the strong performance of second-quarter earnings for the fiscal year 2026-2027, which has been significantly better than the previous three quarters.

Chauhan noted that with an annual net profit growth of about 19% and a projected compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 15 to 16% for the next two years, foreign institutional investors have shown increased interest in Indian markets. Foreign investment inflows have reached nearly $4 billion in recent days, including $1.5 billion in a single trading session.

Impact of Global Trends on Emerging Markets

Chauhan commented on global market trends, stating that the potential reduction in artificial intelligence costs and profit-taking in global tech stocks could encourage investors to direct their investments towards emerging markets like India. He mentioned that due to political conditions in the United States, investment in the AI sector may slow down, leading to selling and liquidity issues in stocks in this area.

It is noted that in the domestic information technology sector, large companies may face short-term growth challenges. However, Chauhan believes that small and medium-sized enterprises in this sector can perform better under current market conditions.

Chauhan advised investors to continue paying attention to large-cap stocks, as these stocks typically take precedence in buying during market recoveries. He also added that while large-cap stocks can provide stability for portfolios, investors should be more cautious in selecting mid-cap and small-cap stocks.

As the special trading session of “Muhurat,” marking the beginning of the fiscal year 2083, approaches, Chauhan stated that the overall market outlook remains positive and will continue to support earnings growth, valuations, and the potential for further declines in crude oil prices. He also mentioned the possibility of some short-term consolidations but assessed the overall market trend as bullish.

Chauhan concluded by saying, "Overall, I believe that yes, we may witness some consolidations, but ultimately we expect the market to move upwards."
