IndiGo, one of the largest airlines in India, has decided to increase its fuel charges. These changes will be applied to all new bookings starting from 00:01 on October 6, 2026, due to a significant increase in jet fuel prices, especially following recent developments in the Middle East.

Reasons for the Increase in Fuel Charges

IndiGo stated that the continuous rise in fuel prices, with a recent month-on-month increase exceeding 14%, has led to jet fuel prices reaching their highest level in a decade. This situation has not only impacted the airline's operational costs but is also linked to the economic challenges arising from geopolitical developments.

Details of the New Charges

According to the new calculations, passengers on domestic flights covering distances of less than 500 kilometers will have to pay 375 rupees as a fuel charge. For domestic flights between 501 to 1000 kilometers, this charge will be 600 rupees, and for flights between 1001 to 1500 kilometers, it will be 900 rupees. Similarly, flights between 1501 to 2000 kilometers will incur a charge of 1150 rupees, and flights covering more than 2000 kilometers will have a fuel charge of 1300 rupees.

IndiGo has also revised fuel charges for international flights based on distance and destination. For flights within the SAARC region, the charge for flights up to 500 kilometers will be 1000 rupees, and for distances over 501 kilometers, it will be 3000 rupees. Flights to Southeast Asia, the Gulf Cooperation Council, the Middle East, and North and East Asia will have a fuel charge of 5500 rupees. The charge for flights to Africa is set at 6000 rupees, and for passengers traveling to Europe, it is 10000 rupees.

Impact on Passengers

IndiGo has emphasized that this increase in charges is less than the actual rise in fuel prices, aiming to limit the impact on passengers. The company is also aware of the implications of these increased costs on customers but has justified these changes as a necessity arising from the ongoing rise in operational costs.

The company has expressed regret that the new charges may impose an additional burden on passengers but considers this decision to reflect the sustained increase in operational costs and market changes. IndiGo has also stated that it will continue to monitor fuel prices and market conditions and will implement further changes if necessary.
