Development of Digital and Physical Infrastructure
The Indian government has emphasized increasing the use of digital platforms and artificial intelligence for personalization, accessibility, and ease of travel. Among these initiatives is India's e-Visa facility, which has expanded from 43 countries at its launch in 2014 to 172 countries, with visas primarily issued electronically. Furthermore, 95 percent of e-Visa applications are processed within 72 hours.
The digital platform "Incredible India" has also been enhanced to provide virtual experiences in cultural, heritage, adventure, and artistic domains. The AI features of this platform include real-time weather updates and access to travel services.
Additionally, the Ministry of Tourism is launching the "National Digital Tourism Infrastructure" aimed at increasing accessibility and transparency in tourism services. The "Dekho Apna Desh 2.0" program also emphasizes promoting lesser-known destinations and balanced distribution of tourist traffic.
The Indian government is simultaneously expanding physical tourism infrastructure. Under the modified "UDAN" scheme for the years 2026-27 to 2035-36, a budget of 28,840 crore rupees has been allocated for the development of 100 airports and 200 modern helipads.
