Iranian negotiators left their talks with Qatari mediators on Sunday. These negotiations were aimed at ending the war with the United States. According to an informed source, this exit was not due to problems in the negotiations, and no further details about the new proposal are available.
Iran's Seven-Stage Proposal
Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman, Ismail Baqeri, announced that the basis of the negotiations is a seven-stage plan that Iran developed in September to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and end the U.S. maritime blockade on Iran. Tehran now proposes that this plan could be implemented on a faster timeline under an agreement.

Baqeri also stated that Kazem Gharibabadi, the Deputy Foreign Minister, had traveled to Doha to facilitate the exchange of messages with Washington through Qatari mediators. He said, "Our demands have been clearly and transparently articulated. These demands are reasonable and rational: no final agreement can begin, and the Strait of Hormuz cannot be reopened or secured unless the U.S. maritime blockade ends, and Iran's reasonable demands are addressed.
Emphasis on New Timeline
On Saturday, the Qatari network Al Jazeera reported, citing Abbas Araqchi, Iran's Foreign Minister, that under the new agreement, the Strait of Hormuz could be reopened in two days instead of the seven days initially anticipated. This initial proposal from Iran had faced rejection from Donald Trump, the President of the United States.
The new round of diplomacy comes amid rising concerns about a renewed escalation of tensions following the midterm elections on Tuesday in the United States. In response to a question about Tehran's view on the midterm elections, Baqeri stated that Tehran does not expect this election to produce a "new generation of the United States."
Trump has stated that the United States will not carry out new attacks on Iran before the elections and that negotiations with Tehran have been positive, although he has not ruled out further military action.
