Traveling to Finland in the autumn, when the yellow and red colors of the trees reach their peak, is an experience you will never forget. On my first trip to this country, I had little expectation, but I spent a pleasant afternoon on comfortable chairs under the blue sky by the lakes.
After a lovely morning at the Mustila Botanical Garden, the oldest and largest botanical garden in Finland, and a lunch tasting various wines, I arrived at the Sahaanlahti accommodation. This accommodation is located in the heart of Finland's lakes, and its sunny views resemble a Mediterranean atmosphere more than a Nordic one.
Searching for Autumn Colors
This accommodation was the second stop of our road trip in September, which started in Helsinki and ended at the shores of Lake Saimaa. Our goal for this trip was to see the autumn colors or "ruska," which only reach their peak for a few weeks before the long winters of Finland begin. However, during the journey from the airport to the Radala accommodation by Lake Oravijärvi, I noticed that most of the trees were still tinged with green, and only the tips of the leaves had turned yellow and red.
Throughout this trip, I became familiar with the cozy cabins by the lakes and traditional Finnish saunas. Everywhere I went, the smell of delicious and fresh food wafted through the air. Local flavors and modern innovations combined to create a unique experience.
An Unforgettable Experience
From the tranquility by the lakes to the enjoyment of local foods and showering in the sauna, every moment of this trip was memorable. With its natural beauty and rich culture, Finland has become an ideal destination for travel lovers. Autumn in Finland is more than just colors; it is a place where nature and culture beautifully intertwine.
