The Korean speech contest was held on October 10, 2026, hosted by the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Oman at the Oman National Museum. This event was organized in celebration of Hangul Day, which is commemorated every year on October 9, and was supported by the Oman National Museum, the Korean Association in Oman, and Korean associations in Africa and the Middle East.
Commemoration of Hangul Day
Hangul Day is recognized as a national festival in South Korea and is held in remembrance of the invention of the Korean alphabet. At this event, Korean language learners in Oman had a suitable opportunity to share their thoughts and experiences and showcased their progress in learning the Korean language. This contest served as a bridge for individuals interested in Korean culture and language.
Engaging Speeches and Diversity of Participants
In this contest, 14 participants delivered speeches in Korean and competed in three different groups based on their duration of study in the language. At the beginning of the event, Mr. Lee Jong-il, the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea in Oman, emphasized the importance of using Korean language skills to enhance cultural and economic exchanges between Korea and Oman, referencing the 100th anniversary of the establishment of Hangul Day.
The program included promotional videos introducing Korea as well as a presentation from one of the graduates of the Global Korea Scholarship (GKS) program in Oman. This representative shared their experience of living and studying in Korea with the audience and introduced the GKS program offered to international students.
Alongside the speech contest, a Korean child and their family visited the exhibitions at the Oman National Museum. This child expressed their impressions of Oman's history and heritage through writing, supported by the museum, and presented their works to the audience.
This event helped promote mutual understanding and created a friendly atmosphere for learning each other's languages and cultures by bringing together Korean language learners and Korean children exploring Oman's heritage. This cultural exchange will strengthen relations between the two countries and emphasizes the importance of recognizing and respecting different cultures.
