The Kuwaiti cabinet, in a meeting chaired by Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Ahmad Al-Sabah, the Prime Minister of Kuwait, strongly condemned the attack on the liquefied gas tanker named "Al-Midha" that was passing through the waters of the Persian Gulf. This meeting also resulted in the approval of a draft law to amend regulations related to private sector participation in the development of state-owned land for housing.

Condemnation of the attack on the Qatari tanker

In a statement following the meeting, Sherida Al-Mausharji, the Minister of Cabinet Affairs, emphasized that the cabinet categorically rejected the attack on the tanker belonging to Qatar Gas Transport Company (Nakilat) and stressed that targeting energy vessels threatens maritime security, global energy supply, and regional stability. The ministers underscored the necessity of adhering to international laws, ensuring freedom of navigation, and protecting vessels and their crews. They also warned of the environmental and economic consequences of attacks on energy tankers and called for the identification and accountability of the perpetrators of these attacks.

Strengthening defense and diplomatic relations

The Minister of Defense, Sheikh Abdullah Ali Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah, briefed the cabinet ministers on a call he had last week with Prince Khalid bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the Minister of Defense of Saudi Arabia. This discussion included bilateral defense relations and regional developments, where both sides emphasized solidarity against threats to their security and stability.

Sheikh Jarrar Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, also provided explanations regarding the political and diplomatic efforts of the ministry and Kuwait's missions abroad in response to regional and international developments. He informed the cabinet that Hamad Suleiman Al-Mashaan, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, summoned the Iranian ambassador, Mohammad Toutounchi, last week and delivered a note of protest regarding a statement issued by the Iranian embassy on October 28.

The Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs described this statement as a blatant interference in Kuwait's internal affairs and a violation of its sovereignty and judicial independence, calling on Iran to respect international laws and the United Nations Charter.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs also reported to the ministers about his official meetings with Saudi officials in Riyadh last week. In this meeting, he strongly condemned the Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia and their attempts to target Mecca and Medina, describing these attacks as violations of Saudi sovereignty and international laws.

The cabinet also approved a draft law to amend Law No. 27 of 1995 regarding private sector participation in the development of state-owned land for welfare housing. This amendment allows for the transfer of portions of land allocated to the Public Authority for Housing Welfare to other government entities as a public necessity and facilitates private sector participation in the development of these lands.
