Lebanon's Prime Minister, Nawaf Salam, met with Marco Rubio at the U.S. Department of State on Monday. This meeting comes as U.S. efforts to advance the security framework between Lebanon and Israel have not made significant progress since the last formal negotiations between the two sides in August.

Details of the Meeting and Accompanying Delegation

Nawaf Salam arrived at the U.S. Department of State on Monday morning, and in this meeting, Joseph Raji, Lebanon's Foreign Minister, and Nada Hamadeh, Lebanon's Ambassador to the United States, were also present. Salam has been in the United States for approximately a week and is currently in Washington to hold meetings with American and international officials. His accompanying delegation includes Yassine Jaber, Minister of Finance, and Joe Sadi, Minister of Energy and Water of Lebanon.

Background of the Lebanese Prime Minister's Visit

This visit marks Nawaf Salam's first meeting since taking office as Prime Minister in February 2025. Prior to this meeting, he attended the United Nations General Assembly in New York, which provided an opportunity to meet with other world leaders and discuss regional issues.

Given the complex security and political situation in Lebanon and Israel, this meeting could be seen as a turning point in U.S. efforts to facilitate dialogue and negotiations between the two countries. Nawaf Salam emphasized the importance of security and economic cooperation and called for increased international support for Lebanon.

In this context, future meetings between American and Lebanese officials are expected to lead to advancements in security negotiations and economic cooperation. Additionally, the existing economic and social crises in Lebanon require international attention and collaboration.
