Muscat Municipality has initiated a project for the restoration of coastal protections in Corniche to preserve and enhance coastal infrastructure. This project, known as Phase One, includes areas four and five and aims to strengthen road protection against waves and erosion.
Details of the Restoration Project
This project will be implemented over a length of 268 meters at a cost exceeding 3 million Omani Rials (OMR). Mohammed bin Abdullah Al-Nabhani, a road engineer at Muscat Municipality, stated that the restoration of rock protections, construction of concrete foundations, installation of breakwater units, and repair of damaged sections of existing walls are among the planned actions in this project. Additionally, maintenance of the road and sidewalks has also been taken into consideration in this project.
Technical Supervision and Project Timeline
Al-Nabhani emphasized that technical supervision over structural foundations, concrete mixtures, stone testing, and quality assurance of protective units is ongoing to ensure that the work proceeds according to approved technical specifications. The timeline for the implementation of this project is projected to be 395 days, with a completion date set for April 2027.
This project will play a significant role in preventing future damages, aiming to enhance the efficiency and sustainability of coastal infrastructure in the area. Improving coastal protections will not only ensure the safety of roads and sidewalks but will also have a positive economic impact on the tourism boom in this region. Given the geographical location and natural beauty of Corniche, this project is presented as a vital action towards sustainable development in the area.
