However, ongoing maritime disruptions and the lack of a clear diplomatic timeline have hindered further market growth.
Market Status Analysis
The potential reopening of the Strait of Hormuz has revived hopes for easing tensions, but ongoing risks in energy flow and reduced shipping traffic continue to negatively impact market sentiment. Andrei Konstantin, a trading manager and consultant at TFP Software, stated: "The drop in oil prices amid rising hopes for normalization has brought pressures, especially as the price of Oman oil has decreased."
Impact of Federal Reserve Speeches
Meanwhile, markets were attentive to the Federal Reserve's speeches this week following last week's interest rate decision. Support for the possibility of further interest rate hikes has maintained expectations for a tightening of monetary policy. The U.S. Composite PMI from S&P Global reached its highest level since July 2021 this month, which could strengthen the likelihood of further increases and impact global sentiment and the MSX 30 index in Oman.
In the industrial sector, the index rose slightly by 0.17% to 9907.92 points. The price of Oman Cement shares increased by 5.18%, while Island Steel products rose by 0.54%. In contrast, Voltamp Energy and OQ Basic Industries fell by 1.60% and 1.56%, respectively. Additionally, the services index decreased by 0.67%, reaching 3009.25 points. Asyad Marine Services, Renaissance Services, and Orduo each saw declines of 7.96%, 2.81%, and 1.88%, respectively.
In the financial sector, the index fell by 0.29% to 13,578.28 points. Bank Sohar International, Al Anwar Investment, and Omnivest dropped by 2.08%, 1.91%, and 0.98%, respectively. Meanwhile, Bank Dofar, Bank Nizwa, Bank Muscat, and National Bank of Oman closed with limited gains.
Looking ahead, traders are likely to focus on clear advancements in U.S.-Iran negotiations and the prospect of reopening the Strait of Hormuz. Any meaningful updates regarding easing tensions and improving shipping conditions could bolster the markets, while disruptions may still pose risks. At the same time, any further guidance from the Federal Reserve could impact market sentiment.
