Oman's Role in Women's Participation in Tourism
In this context, the World Travel and Tourism Council introduced the Sultanate of Oman as a regional model for women's participation in travel and tourism jobs. In a report titled "Power, Efficiency, and Opportunities," the Oman Development Group was recognized as a key partner for sustainability in this field.
According to data presented in this report, women occupy 28% of travel and tourism jobs in the Sultanate of Oman, while the average figure in the Middle East is 18%. This highlights the importance of the tourism sector in providing job opportunities for women and increasing their participation in economic activities.
Moreover, data indicates that youth hold 13% of tourism jobs in the Sultanate of Oman, while this figure is less than 9% in the overall economy, demonstrating the tourism sector's ability to provide job opportunities for young people and open diverse career paths for them.
The "Power, Efficiency, and Opportunities" framework provides a comprehensive analysis of the performance of the travel and tourism sector. The power index measures the sector's contribution to GDP, jobs, and investment; the efficiency index addresses environmental performance and the use of energy, water, and resources; and the opportunity index focuses on the employment and participation of women and youth.
Oman's introduction in these indices adds new dimensions to its presence at the World Travel Market in London, emphasizing the social impact of tourism while showcasing the investment opportunities and tourist attractions available in the country.
