The national team for improving the Sultanate of Oman's performance in the Economic Complexity Index held its first meeting in 2026. This meeting, chaired by Dr. Nasser Rashid Al-Maawali, Deputy Minister of Economy and Head of the Team, discussed the importance of the concept of economic complexity and its role in measuring the diversity and capabilities of the production and knowledge-based economy.
Review of Annual Plans and Priorities
In this session, the team's annual operational plan along with priorities and proposed initiatives for improving the Sultanate of Oman's performance in this index in the upcoming phase was reviewed. This review aligns with national efforts to strengthen economic diversity, develop a competitive ecosystem for the national economy, and improve Oman's performance in relevant international indices.

The national team emphasized the development of the production and export base of the national economy, increasing exports with knowledge and technology content, and leveraging national potentials and capabilities to expand towards more diverse and complex products. Strengthening Coordination and Inter-Institutional Communications
This meeting emphasized the importance of role integration among member government institutions and strengthening coordination in implementing initiatives and tracking data and indices related to economic complexity. The goal is to direct national efforts towards priorities that have a direct impact on Oman's performance in this index.
Additionally, the importance of strengthening communications and coordination with international organizations and institutions responsible for preparing and publishing indices and international reports, as well as tracking methodologies and data used in evaluating countries' performance, was discussed. This will help accurately assess data related to the Sultanate of Oman and enhance its presence in international indices related to economic competitiveness.
The work of the national team aligns with targeted efforts to develop a competitive ecosystem for the national economy and connect national initiatives with international indices.
