The Royal Pavilion of Oman, which is a special guest at the 45th Sharjah International Book Fair 2026, depicts a cultural and knowledge experience inspired by Oman's maritime history. This pavilion refers to the civilization-building of the Sultanate of Oman and its role in connecting with various civilizations.
Architectural Design and Exhibitions of the Pavilion
The architectural design of the pavilion derives its identity from Oman's maritime environment, with sails dominating the visual scene, referencing the Omani ships that traveled the seas and oceans. This symbolic design has helped establish bridges of trade, cultural, and civilizational communications with the people of the world.
This pavilion takes visitors on a journey through a collection of exhibitions and sections that document various aspects of Oman's history and highlight the richness of Oman's literary and intellectual productions and its scientific and cultural heritage.
Manuscripts and Modern Technologies
This pavilion features an exhibition of rare Omani manuscripts, including the manuscript "Al-Muharaba" on the jurisprudence of Sharia politics and the manuscript "Madan Al-Asrar" in the field of marine sciences, which was registered in UNESCO's Memory of the World list in 2017. Additionally, the manuscript "Majmouh Fi Al-Seer Wa Al-Jawabaat," dated to 531 AH, includes a medical collection from the Omani physician Rashid bin Amira and the book "Tanzeeh Al-Absar," which documents the journey of Sultan Barghash bin Said from Zanzibar to Britain, is also displayed in this exhibition.
The pavilion also presents the exhibition "Civilizational Connections Over Time" and showcases Omani historical figures who have had a global impact. The virtual reality section allows visitors to familiarize themselves with elements of Omani culture using modern digital technologies.
This exhibition depicts the beauty of Arabic calligraphy through six panels by Omani artists inspired by the writings and decorations found in manuscripts. Additionally, the Omani publications corner provides an opportunity to learn about literary and intellectual productions, publishers, and Omani authors.
The pavilion's exhibition "Faces and Omani Attires" introduces the diversity of traditional clothing and its social and cultural indicators. Furthermore, a corner promoting tourism showcases the historical and natural assets of the Sultanate. The "Omani Majlis" warmly welcomes visitors with authentic Omani hospitality.
This pavilion features 25 entities from government institutions, civil society, and private institutions, along with 17 Omani publishers, representing a synergy of national efforts to highlight Oman's cultural achievements and strengthen the presence of Omani books in international forums.
The Ministry of Information's participation aims to familiarize visitors with digital content and media publications by providing the "Ain" platform for e-books and audiobooks, while the "Cultural Channel" covers accompanying cultural events and activities to convey Oman's cultural movement to the public.
The ministry's participation also includes presenting a collection of media publications and introductions that document various aspects of the history of the Sultanate of Oman and its achievements, helping to convey its cultural and civilizational image to different segments of society.
Oman's participation includes a cultural program with 28 diverse events featuring a group of thinkers, researchers, and writers discussing topics such as Omani heritage, literature, and cultural identity.
