Persian Gulf crude oil exports significantly exceeded pre-war levels in the first half of September 2023, reaching 18.3 million barrels per day. These figures indicate an improvement in the region's economic situation despite recent tensions and attacks on tankers.

Increase in Crude Oil Exports

According to preliminary data, crude oil exports in the 14 days of September reached levels higher than pre-war. The weekly average export on September 30 reached 18.3 million barrels per day, indicating a significant increase in this sector. This data includes shipments passing through the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea, as well as exports from facilities and ship-to-ship transfers in the Gulf of Oman.

Security Threats and Attacks on Tankers

Despite this increase in exports, repeated attacks on tankers remain a serious threat to this improvement. Recently, the Liberian tanker "Lipsi" was struck by an unspecified project in the Strait of Hormuz, damaging its engine. Additionally, the Kuwaiti tanker "Kazima III" was attacked on October 1 in the same strait, causing a fire. Fortunately, crew members from both vessels survived these incidents.

These attacks could lead to continued instability in the oil market and Persian Gulf exports, raising concerns about energy security in the region. Many analysts believe that this situation could have serious consequences for the global economy, especially as global markets are heavily reliant on oil imports from this region.

In light of these developments, it is expected that regional countries will continue their efforts to strengthen maritime security and protect their oil infrastructure. These measures may include international cooperation and enhanced monitoring of regional waters to prevent the recurrence of such incidents.
