During the Qatar Economic Forum in New York, Qatar introduced key domestic economic strategies and a new investment platform, emphasizing its resilience to strengthen global energy markets.
Economic and Investment Plans
Senior officials from Qatar outlined the roadmap for the next phase of the country's economic development, highlighting domestic resilience, the expansion of artificial intelligence, and the reliability of global energy supply. This meeting was held as a special event of the United Nations General Assembly in 2026 and focused on recent geopolitical challenges.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, described the intensification of regional tensions as a "quake" that has impacted global security and energy supply chains. He emphasized that Qatar has always emerged stronger from crises and has quickly become recognized as one of the leading exporters of liquefied natural gas (LNG).
Doha Investment Platform
As part of these efforts, the Prime Minister officially launched the "Doha Investment" platform, created to oversee the domestic investment portfolio of the Qatar Investment Authority (QIA). This platform includes over 40 companies operating in more than 80 global markets and is expected to approve around $38.5 billion in new infrastructure projects over the next five years.
Sheikh Faisal bin Thani Al Thani, Minister of Industry and Commerce and Vice Chairman of Doha Investment, announced that this platform will collaborate with local and international investors to establish new companies in priority sectors such as advanced technologies, manufacturing, supply chains, and health.
Ali bin Ahmed Al Kuwari, Minister of Finance, emphasized the platform's focus on domestic growth, stating that this allows the QIA to maintain its core mission in international investments. He also referred to a strategic shift towards artificial intelligence, steering Qatar towards a "V-shaped economic recovery."
Sheikh Bandar bin Mohammed bin Saud Al Thani, Governor of the Central Bank of Qatar and Chairman of the QIA, also mentioned the progress of the North Field expansion project, which will double LNG production capacity to 145 million tons per year by 2030.
