Republicans have begun their final efforts to prevent a Democratic victory ahead of the U.S. midterm elections. In this election, which will be held on Tuesday, Democrats hope to gain control of Congress and establish some oversight over the presidency of Donald Trump.

Polls and Current Status

Polls indicate that Democrats are likely to take the House of Representatives from Republicans and have a real chance of seizing the Senate as well. However, given a decade in which Trump has repeatedly defied political expectations, Democrats remain concerned. Democratic Senator Raphael Warnock described the situation as "uncomfortably optimistic."

These concerns heightened on Sunday due to a rift in the Democratic Party in Michigan, which is considered a key battleground. In this state, a Democratic representative has endorsed Republican Mike Rogers against Democratic candidate Abdul El-Sayed. However, analysts generally believe that Democrats currently have a good momentum.

Republican Campaign and Trump’s Statements

The Trump administration is pushing the final day of the campaign by holding rallies in Iowa and Kansas, states where Republicans typically expect to win without presidential assistance. Trump has promised that if his party wins, he will pay every American $5,000 and has accused Democrats of wanting to turn the country communist.

At a rally in Iowa, he said, "We will win" and described Democrats as "radical, extreme, and dangerous" who "steal your wealth" and allow immigrants to "loot, assault, and pillage."

A poll from NBC News released on Sunday shows that 60% of Americans are dissatisfied with Trump’s performance. Rising prices, influenced by the eight-month war with Iran, are a key factor in this dissatisfaction.

Implications of the Midterm Elections

A record 54 million people have already voted in the elections. A Democratic victory in the House of Representatives would give them control over the federal budget and committees that could investigate allegations of corruption and Trump’s connections to Jeffrey Epstein.

In the United States Senate, where Republicans hold a 53-47 majority, the situation remains uncertain. Only one-third of its 100 seats are up for election, and initially, few races were considered favorable for Democrats. However, with strong Democratic challenges in Republican states like Texas and Kansas, polls now assess the chances of Democrats taking control as equal or better.

The final New York Times/Senate poll released on Sunday shows that Democrats are leading in all seven competitive Senate races, five of which are within the margin of error. A Democratic Senate could block Trump’s lifetime judicial appointments, including to the Supreme Court.

Nearly $11 billion has been spent on advertising, much of it funded by wealthy donors. Elon Musk, a Trump supporter leading the DOGE efforts to reduce government offices, has donated nearly half a billion dollars to help elect Republicans.

This campaign has also been marked by a sharp tone, with Trump making numerous unsubstantiated claims about prominent Democratic candidates.

There are also concerns that Republicans may refuse to accept their defeat, leading to a constitutional crisis similar to what occurred after Trump’s attempt to overturn his loss in the 2020 election.

On Sunday, a federal judge dismissed an unusual complaint from the Trump administration seeking to prevent a potential Democratic victory in the Senate in Alaska. The complaint claimed that if Democrat Mary Peltola defeats Republican Senator Dan Sullivan, the result should not be certified because a small third-party candidate, Dan Sullivan, was alleged to have been recruited by Democrats to split the vote.
