The water supply network project in the Al-Mudhaybi governorate, located in the North Sharqiyah region of Oman, has been recognized as the winner of the Water Supply Initiative Award 2026 at the Asia Water Awards. This project, which focuses on the construction of water supply networks and connecting homes in its first phase, has been introduced as a successful example of operational efficiency, financial discipline, and extensive developmental impact.

Effective Management and Field Challenges

The project work was completed within the approved timeframe of 790 days, maintaining a contractual value of 65.25 million Omani Rials without cost overruns. This success reflects efficiency in managing infrastructure projects and coordination at various stages of design, procurement, and execution.

Abdullah Salem Al-Rasbi, CEO of the Development Projects Unit at Nama Water Services, stated that the success of the Al-Mudhaybi project represents the advancement of institutional capabilities in managing strategic projects. He emphasized that the true value of investment lies not only in its scale but in the ability to transform it into reliable infrastructure and sustainable services that benefit the community and economy beyond the project's scope.

Engineering Challenges and Local Solutions

The geographical and urban challenges of the Al-Mudhaybi governorate, including crossing valleys and old neighborhoods, required meticulous planning and extensive field coordination. Ghalib Amer Al-Musalami, the project manager for the water supply networks, stated that the success achieved is not merely the result of engineering efforts but rather the outcome of integrating expertise and the ability to adopt appropriate field solutions.

This project, executed by the Twil Infrastructure Projects Company for Nama Water Services, is recognized as one of the main projects for developing water supply networks. The total length of the networks reached approximately 892 kilometers, providing infrastructure to supply water to around 15,000 homes.

The project also designed a system aimed at anticipating future needs, capable of accommodating over 154,000 residents by 2040, helping to reduce water waste and increase distribution efficiency. This contractual model also aids in distributing financial commitments over a specified period and provides flexibility in managing investments.
