The Sultanate of Oman commemorates the historical journey and ongoing achievements of women in national development on Omani Women's Day, celebrated on October 17 each year. This year's celebration, with the motto 'She is Oman', emphasizes the leadership and competence of women in vital sectors in line with Oman Vision 2040.
Support for Women Under the Leadership of Sultan Haitham bin Tariq
Omani women enjoy strong support under the wise leadership of His Majesty Sultan Haitham Bin Tariq. He views women as vital partners in building the country's future. In a significant national achievement that reflects this commitment, His Majesty ordered an additional seat for Omani women in the Council of Oman to represent each governorate, increasing the total number of designated seats to eleven. This royal decree helps strengthen the principle of consultation (Shura) and enhances women's participation in shaping public policies and national legislation.
Social Leadership and Regional Initiatives
Throughout 2026, Her Highness the Honourable Lady Sayyida Ahad bint Abdullah bin Hamad Al Busaidi made significant field visits to various governorates of the Sultanate and engaged with Omani women's associations in Khasab and Salalah. These visits highlighted community-based projects, traditional handicrafts, and the essential role of local associations in empowering women economically and preserving cultural heritage.
Omani women are expanding their leadership beyond traditional roles and creating a transformation in vital industries:
- Energy Sector: Active participation in oil, gas, electricity, renewable energy, and clean hydrogen initiatives that directly support economic diversification.
- Environmental Sector: Leadership contributions in biodiversity conservation, natural resource protection, and environmental research aimed at building a sustainable future.
- Mining Sector: Involvement in exploration, mining, and value-added production that unlocks the potential of Oman's national mineral wealth.
As the country celebrates this occasion, Omani women continue to remain a fundamental pillar in the nation's current prosperity, demonstrating resilience, dedication, and leadership in achieving national development goals.
