The Sultanate of Oman will participate tomorrow, October 14, as part of a global initiative for World Standards Day, which is held under the slogan "A Shared Vision for a Better World." This day aims to emphasize the pivotal role of quality standards in building quality, safe, and sustainable communities, as well as strengthening international cooperation in facing economic, environmental, and technological challenges.

Importance of Quality Standards

Quality standards serve as a common language, addressing the needs of various sectors and establishing requirements and criteria that help improve the quality of products and services, enhance process efficiency, and strengthen safety and consumer protection. These standards also facilitate trade and access to markets for various products.

Oman's Standardization Projects

The General Directorate of Standards and Measurements at the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion of Oman has announced that by 2026, 24 Omani quality standards in the fields of energy and electrical and electronic equipment will be introduced. Among these standards is the "Connection of Solar Energy Production Systems to the Grid." Imad bin Khamis Al-Shakili, the director general of this directorate, emphasized the importance of collaboration between governments, the private sector, and international organizations to achieve the slogan "A Shared Vision for a Better World."

He also pointed out the challenges posed by climate change and the increasing demand for energy, adding that quality standards play a significant role in supporting Sustainable Development Goal 7 (SDG 7), which is dedicated to ensuring clean and reliable energy. Energy-related standards in products and electrical equipment can help reduce energy consumption and costs, as well as minimize environmental impacts.

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry of Oman will also develop specific quality standards for electrical equipment in 2027 and will prioritize updating Gulf standards related to energy efficiency for air conditioning systems. These actions will support the advancement of innovative technologies in clean energy, including solar energy and smart grids.

Nadia bint Mohammed Al-Siyabi, the director of the Standards Department at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, emphasized that Oman values active participation in Gulf standardization efforts, and these standards are economic tools that contribute to improving the quality of products and services and reducing risks.
