The President of the United States, Donald Trump, on Tuesday (local time) signed an executive order that officially directs the federal government to replace the terms 'artificial intelligence' and 'AI' in all operations of the executive branch with the terms 'super intelligence' and 'SI'.

Executive Order and New Changes

This order establishes the 'Dawn of the Super Intelligence Era', stating that the United States government will no longer recognize or use the term artificial intelligence or AI as an official term in government settings, as far as legally permissible.

The text of this order states: 'Therefore, my administration's policy is that, as far as legally permissible, the executive branch must use the terms 'super intelligence' and 'SI' instead of 'artificial intelligence' and 'AI' and have no recognition of the use of 'artificial intelligence' and 'AI' in any applicable context.'

Reason for Change and Its Impacts

This order also emphasizes that all federal executive departments and agencies are required to transition to the terms 'super intelligence' and 'SI' in their official correspondence, public communications, digital websites, reports, and administrative policy documents.

The order notes that these changes will not retroactively alter previously issued regulations, existing government contracts, grants, or historical archival records.

The reason for this reclassification points out that the capabilities of technology designed by American developers have far surpassed the 70-year-old framework of 'artificial intelligence'.

The government notes in this order: 'The capabilities of today's frontier systems far exceed mere imitation or automation of various aspects of human intelligence. These systems increasingly enhance human creativity and open new forms of creativity, enabling Americans to achieve what was previously impossible.'

Under this order, the government temporarily applies the existing legal definition of artificial intelligence under Title 15 of the United States Code to 'super intelligence'.

Additionally, this order sets a 60-day deadline for the Assistant to the President for Science and Technology (APST) to submit proposed legal language to Congress and establish a new federal legal definition of 'super intelligence' and propose amendments in accordance with existing U.S. laws.

Previously, President Trump held a high-level lunch at the White House with senior technology executives, where he described this technological leap as an unprecedented era for humanity.

Trump emphasized at this meeting: 'This is the biggest thing there is – perhaps the biggest thing that has ever existed. This is an amazing growth for our country – and we have it all.'

After this meeting, technology leaders and government officials explained to reporters about a White House agreement focused on safely developing super intelligence.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg commented on this initiative: 'We want to assure the American people and our customers that this technology works in the way we intend.'

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei stressed the need for collaborative implementation, stating: 'We all need to work together to ensure we can win and win safely. If we do this right and collaborate with the President and everyone here, we can win safely.'

In conclusion, the Director of National Intelligence, Avril Haines, emphasized the defense and intelligence dimensions of these discussions, noting: 'The consensus today on the national security issue is that leadership in America in the field of artificial intelligence is the most important issue for national security.'
