The tripartite meeting of officials from China, Iran, and Oman was held to examine Oman's new mediation initiative and to strengthen economic and political relations among these countries. In this meeting, China, as a key player in the region, and Oman, as an active mediator, discussed the necessary cooperation to improve relations between Tehran and Washington.
Details of the Meeting and Oman's Role
This meeting was held following previous failures in mediation efforts by Pakistan and Qatar. The failures of these two countries were linked to various factors, including a decrease in trust and the activation of the "Mecca Agreement." In this context, Oman was once again highlighted as an important communication channel. Oman's history of successful mediation, especially in indirect negotiations between Iran and the United States, has established it as a strategic partner in this process.
New Agreements and Common Goals
China and Oman agreed in this meeting to take actions to encourage the United States and Iran to adopt peaceful solutions. Additionally, the two countries emphasized the necessity of resuming safe and normal shipping traffic in the Strait of Hormuz. These actions are aimed at increasing security in the region and strengthening economic cooperation between China and Oman.
The Sultan of Oman, Haitham bin Tariq Al Said, emphasized the deep relations of his country with China during this meeting and referred to the signing of agreements and memorandums of understanding in various fields. These agreements included investment, information exchange, and cooperation in technology and artificial intelligence. Xi Jinping, the President of China, also described the expansion of relations with Oman as a strategic choice.
Diplomatic Meetings and Peace Efforts
Following this meeting, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Omani Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi, along with the Iranian delegation, engaged in a tripartite discussion. This meeting focused on Oman's mediation proposals and China's guarantees, with Ali Bagheri Kani, Deputy Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, also participating in these discussions.
Overall, this meeting will not only help strengthen relations among China, Iran, and Oman but could also be considered an effective step towards reducing tensions and achieving stability in the West Asia region. China has also announced that it is beginning an intensive diplomatic tour to reduce tensions in the region and will send its special envoy to Iran, Oman, and Saudi Arabia.
