The horse Point of Law, which previously belonged to King Charles, won the Melbourne Cup in Australia, and jockey Ethan Brown experienced his first victory in this prestigious race. The race had a prize of 10 million Australian dollars (equivalent to 7.2 million US dollars) and with this victory, Brown was recorded in the history of "the race that stops the nation."
Race Details
This three-year-old horse triumphed over Zahraan and Joya Kibo in a challenging 3200-meter race in Flemington. All these horses were under the training of the skilled Ciaron Maher. Brown, while expressing joy over this victory, said: "This is an incredible feeling. These are the days when all the challenges bear fruit."
Horse History and Performance
The victory of Point of Law came in only his sixth professional race, and he had never raced at a distance of 3200 meters before. He participated in this race with a suitable draw (score nine) and gained attention after winning the Gilo Keeper Cup, which was his first appearance in Australia. This horse was purchased from King Charles earlier this year, finished fourth in a race at Royal Ascot, and won the Bahrain Trophy race.
Ciaron Maher, the horse's trainer, also expressed happiness over this victory, stating: "It has been an amazing journey, and I am very proud of the entire team. For three of my horses to finish in the top three is truly remarkable." Maher had also won this race in 2022 with the horse Gold Trip, which was ridden by Mark Zahra.
In this race, another horse trained by Maher named Royal Supremacy, after rain fell the night before the race, surged ahead but ultimately finished fifth. Brown believed his horse could surpass the competitor and added: "He is an incredible horse and is set to become a star in the world of horse racing."
This race has been held since 1861 and is considered a national day in the host state of Victoria.
