Israel's Foreign Minister, Gideon Sa'ar, has announced the ban on Zac Polanski, the leader of the Green Party of Britain, from entering the country following the approval of a resolution by the Green Party that defines Zionism as a "national political project." This resolution, which was passed with 1,022 votes in favor and 813 against, describes Zionism as a form of racism and emphasizes that anti-Zionism should not be equated with anti-Semitism.

Details of the Resolution and Its Consequences

The aforementioned resolution clearly expresses the Green Party's opposition to Zionism and emphasizes the party's commitment to Palestinian freedom, the right of return, sanctions, and a complete ban on arms exports to Israel. Zac Polanski, born David Pawlenden and of Jewish descent, has been leading the Green Party of England and Wales since 2025. In July 2025, while serving as deputy leader of the party, he described the situation in Gaza as genocide and accused the British Labour government of active complicity in the matter.

Impacts on Israel-Britain Relations

This action clearly indicates the increasing tensions in Israel-Britain relations. Given that the Green Party of Britain has increasingly taken critical positions regarding Israeli policies, such actions could escalate criticisms and tensions between the two countries. This is while Israel has traditionally enjoyed strong support from Britain, and such a development could affect bilateral cooperation and the foreign policies of both countries.

As international support for Palestinians is on the rise, similar approaches from various political parties in Western countries could lead to increased pressure on Israel to change its policies. Meanwhile, Israel vehemently rejects any criticism of its policies, viewing it as an attack on its right to exist.
