Gadi Eisenkot, a candidate in the Israeli elections, on Sunday emphasized the need for national unity at his final major rally before the vote. Meanwhile, Benjamin Netanyahu, the Prime Minister of Israel, attempted to portray his main rival as incapable of addressing Iranian threats.

Criticism of Netanyahu and Eisenkot's Promises

Netanyahu has emphasized his security credentials in his election campaign, but Eisenkot has accused him of failing to lead and promised to establish a government commission to investigate the failures resulting from the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023. Polls indicate that Netanyahu and Eisenkot are closely matched as the elections approach.

Eisenkot told a crowd of hundreds in his speech that his and his team's goal is to create unity in Israeli society after a tense period under Netanyahu's leadership. He stated, "Our aim is not for one side to win over the other. We will work to bring all Israelis back together."

Response to Public Concerns

Gadi Eisenkot, recognized as a newcomer in politics, promised to address public concerns and focus on ensuring security and improving the country's economic situation. At his rally, he told voters, "We need change. Israel cannot continue like this."

Citizens present at the rally supported Eisenkot, with some describing him as a trustworthy figure. One participant said, "I feel he can bring everyone together, almost like a father."

On the other hand, Netanyahu continued to criticize Eisenkot, accusing him and his allies of intending to establish a Palestinian state, which he described as a disaster for Israel. He said, "Only I can dismantle Iran's nuclear program, and no one else can do it."

Eisenkot responded to Netanyahu's criticisms, accusing him of exaggerating the Iranian threat when it suits him. He said, "You have once again failed to achieve the military goals you set for yourself."

Ultimately, Eisenkot has strengthened his position as a serious option in the elections and shown that he is also attentive to the security and social concerns of Israeli society, while Netanyahu finds himself in a difficult situation due to political and legal reasons.
