Amazon Web Services (AWS) announced on Tuesday that due to the damages caused by attacks during the Iran war, it is unable to restore access to its cloud facilities in Bahrain and that one of the three data hosting regions in the United Arab Emirates has also been affected.
Details of Damages in Bahrain
According to the reports provided, the damages to AWS facilities in Bahrain include several Availability Zones, which are recognized as clusters of one or more data centers in a region. AWS noted in its status update that "the damage to our infrastructure includes several Availability Zones and exceeds what our regional and multi-region services are designed for." The company has stated that it is assisting customers based in Bahrain to resume their operations in other regions.

Situation in the United Arab Emirates
In addition to Bahrain, AWS also announced that due to the damages incurred, it is unable to restore access to resources and data that are exclusively hosted in one of the regions in the United Arab Emirates named mec1-az2. The company is working to recover resources across the UAE region and in two other affected regions. AWS also mentioned that "other AWS services may also face additional errors and delays in their workflows, and we are working to redirect requests to these affected regions."
This situation will clearly have negative impacts on economic and business activities in the region and could affect the development of cloud services in the Gulf.
