The Nobel Peace Prize will be announced soon on October 9, 2023, at the Nobel Institute in Norway located in Oslo. This award is one of the most prestigious global prizes in the field of promoting peace and is awarded annually to individuals or organizations working to create peace and reduce international tensions.

Nomination Process

This year, 287 candidates have been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, including 208 individuals and 79 organizations. The list of nominees is kept secret for 50 years in a vault at the Nobel Institute in Norway. However, nominators, who include thousands of people from around the world, can disclose their selections.

Some leaders from various countries, including Cambodia, Israel, and Pakistan, have announced that they have nominated Donald Trump, the President of the United States. However, experts believe that his chances of winning this award are very low.

Criteria for Selecting the Winner

The Nobel Committee in Norway consists of five members appointed by the Norwegian Parliament and usually includes retired politicians. This committee reviews the candidates and assesses global conditions, aiming to select a winner that aligns with the description provided in the will of Alfred Nobel, the founder of this award. According to this will, the Nobel Peace Prize should be awarded to an individual who has made the greatest efforts to promote friendship between nations, reduce or eliminate permanent armies, and promote peace conferences.

The Nobel Committee in Norway also emphasizes that the selection of the winner should be made in a global context and with consideration of current trends. This committee pays attention to global issues and challenges and seeks promising trends in the field of peace and international cooperation.

Members of the Nobel Committee can also propose their own candidates, and these proposals are usually reviewed in the committee's first meeting in February. After reviewing and discussing the candidates, the committee prepares a shortlist of nominees and ultimately selects the winner.

The prize includes a gold medal, a diploma, 12 million Swedish kronor (equivalent to 1.2 million dollars), and immediate global attention. The award ceremony will take place on December 10, the anniversary of Alfred Nobel's death, at the Oslo City Hall.
