Libya has recently witnessed a major anti-drug trafficking operation in which around 400 kilograms of hashish were discovered and seized. Local officials announced that this shipment, valued at approximately 6 million dinars (equivalent to $934,000), was found near the shores of the city of Tobruk in an agricultural area.
Details of the Hashish Discovery Operation
This operation was carried out by the Libyan Drug Enforcement Agency, and Ahmed Al-Masmarri, the head of information and documentation at the agency, stated that the shipment had been trafficked into Libya through the Egyptian border and was intended for distribution in the local market. Officials also emphasized that initial investigations indicate that these drugs were meant for domestic consumption.

The detainees, whose number has not been confirmed, include citizens from Libya and Egypt. Images released from this operation show that the hashish was packaged in gold and black bags with specific markings, including an image of a horse and the year 2026.
Continuing Drug Crisis in Libya
Since 2011, following the overthrow of Muammar Gaddafi, Libya has become a major route for drug trafficking. Over the years, criminal groups have exploited the chaos and political unrest to expand their activities. This situation has fueled the increase in drug trafficking and other illegal activities.
In another action, a unit of the Libyan National Army discovered over 1.3 million psychoactive pills in the city of Kufra on Saturday. This discovery followed a shootout with traffickers that resulted in three soldiers being injured. These incidents highlight the security and social challenges that Libya faces.
The Libyan government is striving to implement effective measures to combat drug trafficking and enhance security in the country, in collaboration with security and international agencies. However, the deep political and economic crisis that Libya is facing makes these efforts extremely difficult.
