Abdul Latif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Bahrain's Foreign Minister, stated on Friday at the eighty-first session of the United Nations General Assembly that the security of the region is in an unprecedented condition. He emphasized the commitment of regional countries to the highest levels of restraint and called for collective cooperation to ensure the security of maritime passages.
Bahrain's Opposition to Tolls for Passage through the Strait of Hormuz
Al Zayani, referring to the Strait of Hormuz, announced Bahrain's opposition to the imposition of any tolls or requirements for permits to pass through this waterway. He noted that the existence of a temporary alternative route does not negate the right to passage through the Strait of Hormuz. These statements reflect Bahrain's determination to preserve its rights in strategic waterways and ensure the economic security of the region.
Maritime Defense Coalition and Collective Security
Bahrain's Foreign Minister welcomed the establishment of a multinational maritime defense coalition led by Saudi Arabia and emphasized that ensuring the security of maritime passages should be a collective responsibility and should not be limited to bilateral agreements. He also referred to the consequences of regional conflicts, stating: "These consequences extend beyond borders" and reminded of its impact on energy prices, food, and supply chains.
Al Zayani further emphasized support for the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Syria and called for an immediate ceasefire in Sudan and the achievement of a political solution to end the crisis in that country. These points reflect Bahrain's diplomatic approach in supporting stability and security in the region and indicate that Bahrain, as a key player in regional diplomacy, is striving to help resolve existing crises.
