King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, resumed its flights on Sunday after a two-week closure due to attacks by the Houthi group from Yemen. This closure followed recent attacks by the Houthis on the Saudi capital, resulting in the deaths of 13 people and injuries to over 300, marking the deadliest incident in Saudi Arabia in more than a decade.

Resumption of Flight Services at Riyadh Airport

The airport has announced that Terminal 1 is designated for domestic flights and Terminal 2 for international flights, operated by national airlines. This decision has been made to return to normalcy and improve travel conditions in the region.

Flight information from the radar site indicates that a plane has departed from King Khalid Airport to Jeddah. This action reflects Saudi Arabia's efforts to return to normal conditions and ensure security in air travel following a series of Houthi attacks.

Houthi Warnings and Consequences of Continued Tensions

While the airport continues its operations, the Houthi group has warned that this airport will still be their next target for attacks. This situation indicates escalating tensions in the region and the likelihood of continued conflicts between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis.

The Saudi-led military coalition fighting the Houthis has also announced that it shot down several drones flying over the Riyadh area on Sunday. This action demonstrates Saudi Arabia's determination to protect its airspace and internal security.

Saudi Arabia and the internationally recognized Yemeni government supported by Riyadh have faced a wave of Houthi attacks in recent weeks. These attacks began after the collapse of a years-long ceasefire last summer and have severely impacted the humanitarian situation in Yemen, one of the poorest countries in the world.

The escalation of conflicts and repeated Houthi attacks on airports and other areas have raised concerns about security and stability in the Gulf region. This situation appears to add new dimensions to the proxy war between the United States and Iran and has deepened the humanitarian crisis in Yemen.
