British police questioned five men on Monday in connection with allegations related to explosives and terrorism. These individuals were arrested in the early hours of Sunday near RAF Fairford airbase in western England, which is specifically used by American forces for military operations against Iran.
Details of the arrests and investigations
Police officers arrested these individuals after receiving a report about three large white vans moving towards the military base. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran had previously stated that this base is considered a legitimate target. Donald Trump, the former President of the United States, said that the suspects were seeking to cause "significant harm" and were under investigation by British and American authorities.

Analysis of motivations and security implications
The investigations regarding these individuals have not publicly provided any information yet, but informed sources suggest that motivations related to Iran are the most likely scenario. There is also consideration of potential sabotage operations by Russia or Islamist plots. A local farmer, who has not been named, reported to the police after seeing a group of "masked men."
British Defense Minister, Ben Wallace, stated in an interview that the farmer only has a "partial picture" of the incident and refrained from commenting on motivations during the investigation. He also referred to the general threat posed by Iran to the country, saying: "We know that Iran and its representatives are seeking to harm us. We must regularly counter Iran's efforts to threaten our interests or those of our allies."
The British government raised the national terrorism threat level from "substantial" to "severe" last April. Currently, police are investigating Iran's connections to several incidents in which properties associated with the Jewish community or Iranian dissidents have been targeted.
In response to the arrests in Fairford, the U.S. Embassy issued a security alert and urged American citizens to exercise caution and pay attention to their personal safety. Security at other U.S. airbases in Britain has also been increased.
