The ban season for catching Kanad fish on the shores of Oman is coming to an end. This ban, which began on August 15, 2026, has lasted for two months and will continue until October 15 of this year. The aim of this action is to preserve and manage marine resources and prevent the depletion of this valuable species.
Fishing Ban Regulations
The ban on catching Kanad fish has been implemented based on the decision of the Ministry of Agricultural Wealth, Fisheries, and Water Resources of Oman, numbered (230/2014). This decision includes several legal articles that clearly specify the conditions and regulations related to the fishing of this species. According to these regulations, catching Kanad fish on the shores of Oman and its natural breeding areas is prohibited from August 15 to October 15 each year.

Additionally, catching Kanad fish that are shorter than 65 centimeters is strictly prohibited. All fishermen are required to immediately return fish smaller than the permissible size back to the sea. Furthermore, during this ban period, the possession, buying and selling, transportation, storage, and export of Kanad fish is prohibited.
Aims and Consequences of the Fishing Ban
The Ministry of Agricultural Wealth, Fisheries, and Water Resources of Oman aims to preserve Kanad fish stocks and regulate the fishing process through this decision. These actions are intended to prevent the decline of this species' population and also to enhance environmental sustainability along the shores of Oman. By reducing pressure on fishing resources, the ministry hopes to establish a balance between stock levels and catch amounts and contribute to the sustainable development of the fishing industry in the country.
At the end of each fishing season, all individuals and institutions that possess quantities of Kanad fish are required to register these amounts with the relevant authorities in the provinces. This action will help ensure transparency and better management of marine resources.
