The explosion occurred at an ammunition depot of the Syrian Army in Aleppo province on Monday morning, leading to several injuries and the evacuation of residents from nearby villages. This event is the fourth explosion of its kind in September and has raised new concerns about the security of military stockpiles in the area.

Details of the Explosion and Its Effects

The explosions near the Al-Eis area in Aleppo province left a loud noise in surrounding cities and terrified local residents. The Syrian Ministry of Crisis Management and Disasters reported that four people were injured in these explosions, including one due to falling shrapnel from the blast. Rescue teams assisted nearby residents in fleeing their homes, and security forces blocked roads leading to the incident site.

Ahmad Al-Ali, a resident of a nearby village, described it as "as if the Day of Judgment had come. It was not fear, but terror... a blind rocket. You don’t know where it will land." The sound of the explosions continued for an hour and had a terrifying impact on local residents.

History of Explosions and Possible Causes

In September, at least three other explosions at ammunition depots across Syria have been reported, one of which in the neighboring Idlib province resulted in the deaths of 14 people on September 9. Another explosion in eastern Syria last week also killed 11 people. Overall, since the ousting of Bashar al-Assad, the former President of Syria in December 2024, at least 16 similar explosions in military stockpiles have been reported.

The causes of these explosions vary, with some Syrian officials pointing to improper storage, fires, or poor-quality munitions, while factors from several other cases remain publicly unidentified. These explosions, especially under the current circumstances, have raised serious concerns about security and stability in Syria.

Rescue teams are working to clear and collect unexploded munitions to prevent similar incidents from occurring. These incidents have also raised questions about the management of military stockpiles and the safety of these depots among officials and local residents.
