Captain Smith Machchar, the captain of Fly Dubai flight FZ1073, displayed heroic efforts to prevent a deadly disaster during an unfortunate incident that occurred in Saudi airspace. This attack, carried out by the co-pilot, was intended to crash the plane into Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv.

Details of the Attack and Quick Action

Machchar, in an interview from Abu Dhabi hospital, recounted the terrifying moments of the attack and his efforts to save himself and the passengers. He explained that at the first impact, he thought there was a major problem with the aircraft's structure, but quickly realized he was under attack. He added: "My next thought was that I needed to get help."

Captain Machchar, referring to the injuries sustained while defending himself, said: "I tried to block the blows as much as possible. The blows were hitting my head." He then reached for the cockpit door release button and called for help from his colleagues.

Consequences of the Attack

Flight FZ1073, which was in Saudi airspace at the time of the incident, rapidly descended 16,000 feet (4,900 meters). Fortunately, the two other pilots on board were able to take control of the aircraft and safely land it in Saudi Arabia. UAE judicial authorities have described the attack as a suicide attempt and have begun investigations into the matter.

Machchar remarked that "the scariest thing I felt was the rapid nose dive of the plane," commenting that at that moment he was unsure whether he would survive. He continued his efforts with determination, stating: "Did I give up trying? No."

This incident has not only raised serious concerns about flight safety but has also fueled security issues in the realm of air transportation. Authorities are examining how such incidents can be prevented in the future.
