Developments in Technology and Oman's Role
The discussions at the conference focused on the economic opportunities that rapid developments in these areas bring to the Omani market and the Gulf region. These developments include attracting more investments in digital infrastructure, developing technical capabilities, creating business partnerships, and opening new avenues for Omani companies. Additionally, the conference encouraged international companies to establish operations and expand their presence in the Sultanate of Oman and the Middle East and North Africa region.
These orientations are particularly significant given the assets of the Sultanate of Oman, especially its strategic geographical position. Oman serves as a gateway to Gulf markets with international communication networks and digital infrastructure and data centers, possessing considerable capabilities in the energy sector. These assets are a crucial foundation for attracting investment and developing new economic activities.
Engineer Al-Adin Bait Fadhil, CEO of Omantel, stated that with the emergence of generative artificial intelligence, we are witnessing a technological revolution for the first time in history, the effects of which are observable throughout the entire value chain. These effects begin with digital infrastructure and critical infrastructure with data governance needs and continue to the development of commercial and consumer applications.
The CEO of Omantel also referred to the company's investment in over 20 international submarine cable systems and emphasized the importance of developing technology startups and enhancing their growth capabilities. Omantel's innovation labs have supported over 80 technology startups in various fields since 2021.
The AXIS 2026 conference has acted as a vital platform for bringing together various stakeholders and has explored ways to integrate new technologies in the Sultanate of Oman and identify areas for future collaboration and partnerships.
