India announced on Thursday that it is investigating the details of an incident involving 14 Indian citizens on a yacht off the coast of Yemen and is ensuring all possible assistance for their safety and health.
Houthi claims about Saudi attacks
This statement came after the claims of Houthi forces in Yemen, who stated that they had begun a rescue operation following what they described as a Saudi attack on this yacht. The Indian embassy in Yemen announced on social media platform X: "We have seen reports of an incident involving 14 Indian citizens on a yacht off the coast of Yemen. We are investigating further details about this incident and will do everything possible to ensure the safety and health of Indian citizens."
More details from Yemeni forces
The Houthi forces claimed that the Saudis targeted an Indian yacht carrying 14 Indian citizens near the island of Zuqar in the Red Sea. Yahya Saree, the military spokesperson for the Houthis, stated based on initial information that Yemeni armed forces would provide more details in the near future. He also said: "The Saudi enemy has targeted an Indian yacht, and Yemeni forces are in the process of rescuing them. This reckless act poses a threat to international navigation in the Red Sea."
These developments come as just a day earlier, an attack on King Fahd International Airport in Dammam, Saudi Arabia, resulted in the deaths of two people, including one Indian citizen, and injuries to two other Indian citizens.
India has also strongly condemned the ongoing attacks on civilian and energy infrastructure in Saudi Arabia and expressed hope for the swift restoration of peace and tranquility in the region. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs stated: "We strongly condemn the ongoing attacks on civilian and energy infrastructure in Saudi Arabia, including the attack on King Fahd International Airport in Dammam and the Shaybah oil field of Aramco in the Eastern Province on October 21."
Meanwhile, the Houthis have accused Saudi Arabia of conducting air and missile attacks in several provinces of Yemen this week.
