According to the Iranian Ministry of Interior, this visit follows a phone call between Momeni and Sheikh Khalid on August 2, during which the two officials discussed regional developments and ways to enhance coordination and bilateral cooperation.
Background of Cooperation Between the Two Countries
In recent months, high-level communications have been established between Qatar and Iran. Among these communications was a visit by a Qatari delegation to Tehran in September, where they met with Abbas Araghchi, Iran's Foreign Minister. These meetings are part of efforts to reduce regional tensions.
On August 27, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani's visit to Tehran is also considered a significant trip. This visit is regarded as the first high-level meeting between the two countries since the onset of tensions between Iran and the United States in February of this year.
Qatar continues to play a mediating role between the United States and Iran, seeking to reduce differences and create common grounds through message exchanges and effective communications.
