Israeli officials will soon interrogate the co-pilot of Fly Dubai flight (FZ1073) who recently attacked the pilot in an attempt to crash the flight with 170 passengers and crew on board. This incident occurred on October 2 while the flight was en route from Dubai to Tel Aviv, and fortunately, thanks to the intervention of passengers and crew, a disaster was averted in time.

Details of the Incident

The co-pilot attacked the pilot with a knife during the flight towards Tel Aviv. Following this action, a reserve pilot who was on board took control of the aircraft and successfully landed it at Tabuk Airport in northwestern Saudi Arabia. After landing, Saudi authorities detained the co-pilot.

On October 3, the co-pilot was transferred to the United Arab Emirates, and Israeli officials expect to interrogate him soon. No specific information has been released regarding which Israeli agency or organization will participate in this interrogation.

Security Implications

Benjamin Netanyahu, the Prime Minister of Israel, stated that the country is investigating whether the co-pilot acted under the guidance of someone else. He warned of the consequences for those involved, emphasizing that anyone who participated in this incident will pay a heavy price. While most passengers on this flight were Israeli citizens, this incident has raised new security concerns ahead of the Israeli general elections scheduled for October 27.

Netanyahu also noted that the co-pilot, identified as an Omani citizen, appears to have been influenced by extremist Islamic thoughts and was in a state of severe desperation. However, no evidence has yet been established regarding his actions.

Considering that Israel does not have official diplomatic relations with Oman, Netanyahu pointed out that pilots from that country are not allowed to fly to Israel. It is still unclear how this co-pilot was assigned to the flight to Tel Aviv.

This incident has also raised security concerns that have become particularly prominent given the current situation with regional tensions and recent attacks on Israel. In this context, the United Arab Emirates has been strengthening its relations with Israel, and more security cooperation has been established.
