The residents of the town of Ramich in southern Lebanon are deeply worried about their future with the imminent withdrawal of United Nations peacekeeping forces (UNIFIL) from the occupied area of Israel. This region, heavily affected by Israeli bombings, is now facing serious problems in securing goods and communication with other parts of Lebanon.
Current Situation in the Region
The United Nations peacekeeping forces are the only vehicles present on the roads of this area, while destroyed buildings and deserted villages display signs of a humanitarian crisis in this domain. Over six months of Israeli bombings, which began following a rocket attack by Hezbollah in March, have led to the displacement of residents in this area and severe damage to infrastructure.

The residents of Ramich, about 6000 of whom remain, are extremely worried about losing their connection with other parts of Lebanon. George Ibrahim, a 45-year-old teacher from this town, says: "What will happen to us? If they want to bring goods from Beirut here, how will those goods reach us?" He expresses concern that without the presence of UNIFIL forces, their future will be uncertain.
Withdrawal of Peacekeeping Forces and Its Consequences
The UNIFIL forces, established in 1978 following Israel's invasion of Lebanon, have been present in this area for nearly five decades. However, with the end of the year approaching and the lack of an extension for their mission, the residents of Ramich and other occupied areas are deeply worried about the consequences of this withdrawal. These forces have not only helped ensure security but have also played a crucial role in meeting humanitarian needs and assisting residents.
Statistics show that over 300 peacekeepers have lost their lives in Lebanon, and this number has increased this year due to wars and Israeli weaponry. The residents of Ramich are well aware that with the withdrawal of these forces, control of the situation will fall into the hands of Israeli forces, which means greater dangers for them.
The Israeli force has stated that it is trying to clear the area of Hezbollah, but the residents of this area feel that they are trapped in a large prison and need support and security. Currently, with dwindling supplies in local stores, residents are facing a crisis in securing food and other basic needs.
